The overwhelming majority of our thoughts, emotions, and actions are both driven by autopilot and not consciously considered. We live of our lives on autopilot, reacting to stimuli rather than taking a moment to pause, consider, and respond skillfully. The results can be consequential to say the least. We hear our partner's urgent, angry tone and we respond with automatic emotions and thoughts. First comes anxiety, then anger. "Here we go again," we think. And the repetitive argument ensues. Same pattern, just different words. Or, we sit down for a little quiet time after a long day, planning to catch up on the news or a favorite tv show. Instead, we find ourselves drawn as if sleepwalking into video games, YouTube, Instagram, or porn, burning hours of time in activities we are not proud of or even ashamed of. Or at work we dread the weekly meetings, knowing stress and anxiety are seemingly inevitable. We "white knuckle" it, hoping nobody will notice the racing heart, constricted voice, or shaking hands. Does life have to be this way? Do we have be enslaved by thoughts and emotions that seem impossible to change? The answer is, very simply, No. At StrongMind Werks the foundation of many of our programs is found in a very specific kind of daily practice that helps us identify our patterns, face them directly, and overcome them with skillful, well-considered changes. But you can't fix what you can't see. In the Disciplined Mind Course you will work one-on-one with Dr. Chris, a highly trained and seasoned professional in this kind of work. With nearly 20 years of experience leading individuals and group of clients in the practice of disciplined mind, you are in good hands and will likely be stunned at the power of this course. You will spend one hour at week meeting with Dr. Chris, where you will go over course material and practice a very specific kind of mindful focus. Far from being a "feel good" course, you will learn to direct and maintain your focus on the parts of your mind and body that need it most. This is not always comfortable work. By facing your demons directly, though, they gradually begin to lose power. With growing awareness, you react less and respond thoughtfully more. Knee jerk reactions and habits give way to healthy decisions and habits. You are no longer on autopilot. You are focused, disciplined, aware, responsive, calm, and confident.
